Canadian Australian WHP
There have been some major changes to the Canadian Australian Working Holiday Program. To combat the labor shortages, there is a new 3 year pilot program that is currently in effect regarding Australian youth workers. To qualify candidates must be:
- 18-30 years of age at the time of application
- Proof of sufficient funds (CAD 3,500 for Australians)
- not be accompanied by dependents
- Hold valid Australian passport
- Pay working holiday visa fee (CAD 165)
- Meet applicable immigration legislation
Previously there used to be a limit of 10,000 WHP visas issued annually which has been now removed. Australian participants can now stay in Canada for a period of 24 months and can work for any one employer for the entire duration. They can also study for a period of 6 months without securing a student permit. They can depart and enter Canada as many times as they like within the duration of the program. Dependants however cannot accompany participants but may apply under separate categories such as visitor visas.
